Condé Nast Digital Network Ad Specs
General Guidelines
- All ad units must launch a new browser window when clicked on
- Ads do not have a "looping" limit
- Ads are served via Javascript Ad calls, not iframes.
- Audio must be user initiated with a clearly recognizable on/off button
- All expanding ad units must be user initiated
- All floating ad units must have a clearly recognizable close button
- DFP is used to serve all Condé Nast Digital Site Ad Units
- Dreammail is used to serve all Newsletter placements
- All sound must be initiated by a user click. Once clicked, sound may start. Advertisement must have an always present, clearly labeled on/off button.
- All rich media ads must have an alternate GIF versions of creative
- No PSA ads are allowed
- Condé Nast Digital reserves the right to terminate a campaign at any indication that it is not being properly served.
- All ads are served via Java Script tags.
Third Party Ads
Tags Ad tags are accepted from the following vendors:
- Atlas
- Bluestreak
- Doubleclick
- MediaPlex
- TruEffect
For Doubleclick, please submit DFA Internal Redirect for all site placements, and DFA Standard tags for all HTML newsletter placements.
For all other ad tag units, please supply Javascript tags for all site placements, and Standard tags or Gif/Jpg with click thru for all HTML newsletter placements.
Third Party Rich Media
We accept rich media ad units from the following vendors:

- Motif (Only when served via DFA)

All ads must have a border with the exception of the 120x60 logo
120x60 logo should not have a border or stroke and must have a transparent background.
Rich Media:
Flash Ad Units
- Flash files served via DART must be coded properly for proper click and impression tracking.
- All Flash files must be submitted as a .SWF file with accompanying back up gif/jpg for display to users who do not accept Flash.
- A click thru URL and Default image must also be supplied for each .SWF ad unit.
Below are detailed instructions for SWF file coding for DART AD Serving:
- Create an invisible button over the area that you want 'active/clickable' to users
- On that invisible button, put the following action:
on (release) {getURL(_level0.clickTag, "_blank");}
- Export the swf and test by opening the swf and clicking on the intended 'active' area. If a new browser or Explorer window opens upon click, the ad has been coded correctly for DART tracking. The ad must spawn a new browser window.
HTML units: The HTML for the ad should not require a space larger than the maximum allowed pixel ad size. <HTML>, <HEAD>, <BODY>, <br>, or <p>, hard breaks (carriage returns) or alignment tags should not be included. All white spaces must be eliminated. Please remember to use a CLOSE FORM tag when using forms in .html (i.e., </form>)
Ad Creative Policy:
- Condé Nast Digital has final approval for all ads with respect to editorial/creative content.
- Condé Nast Digital reserves the right to remove an advertisement from its web sites at any time for any reason.
- Changes to an existing campaign must be received at least three business days prior to the change.
- All rich media ads must be served via one of the accepted third parties or vendors listed.

-Can only play for up to 15 seconds before timing out

- Frame rate – same as source or ½ of source (15 – 30 fps)
- Key frame – every 30-60 frames (2 seconds)
- Video Data Rate – 600kbps
- Audio Data Rate – 48kbps
- Total Data Rate – 648kbps
- It is recommended to crop to TV-Safe Area and de-interlace. Video should not include a leader.
- Clickable, please supply a click-thru URL
- 3rd Party Serving: A single redirect (http:// or https:// path) to the FLV is permitted. Must contain the .flv extension in the creative return. Any other ad tags (JS, HTML, or IFRAME) are not supported within the Flash environment.
SWF
- Dimensions – 480x360 (4:3 Full Screen) or 480x270 (16:9 Wide Screen)
- File size max – 200MB
- Video length (in seconds) - :15
- The length of the main timeline dictates the duration of the ad. A 300 frame movie will last 10 seconds (300 frames @ 30 fps).
- Flash version – Flash 8
- Frame rate – same as source or ½ of source (15 – 30 fps)
- Key frame – every 30-60 frames (2 seconds)
- Max animation length – 15 seconds
- Looping restriction - 1
- Requires a 480x360 (or 480x270) rectangle with a top left registration point at (0, 0) drawn on stage for the whole movie. This can have opacity of 0%, but must be present so the Brightcove player can size the movie properly.
- Content must begin on or after frame 5. At this point, content can be inset from the stage borders or extend outside them without it affecting sizing
- A stop(); action should be placed in the final frame on the main timeline.
- Must not reference level0 in Actionscript. References should not be made to _root unless _lockroot=true. It is recommended that relative paths be used instead.
- Any reference to any methods or properties of the Stage class must be removed.
- Actionscript should not change the player quality.
- Preloaders are built into the players, so should not be present in the movie.
- To get the play/pause buttons to appear when using a SWF in the video ad window, please use the ad creative templates provided by the publisher.
- If not using the creative templates supplied by the Brightcove publisher, please add these lines of code to the first frame of the file:

- Clickable, please supply a click-thru URL and implement the clickTag function as described in clickTag section below.
- 3rd Party Serving: A single redirect (http:// or https:// path) to the creative asset is permitted. Any other ad tags (JS, HTML, or IFRAME) are not supported within the Flash environment.
JPG or static GIF
- Dimensions – 480x360 (or 480x270)
- File Size max – 40k
- GIF must be static. Flash 8 will only display the first frame of most animated .gifs.
- JPG must be non-progressive.
- Clickable, please supply a click-thru URL
